Captain Van, a merchant marine officer, fell in love with the island when he came for a visit, and saw a need for 2 wheel rentals in 1997. Sure...you could rent a car he surmised…but that shouldn’t be the only way to see a Caribbean Island...and so Capt. Van's was founded in the seaside village of West End renting scooters and motorcycles.

In 2004, Murray Russ from Canada, visited Roatan, and following his dream, purchased Captain Van's Rentals. Murray's years of sales and marketing experience and his strong desire to ensure a positive experience for his customers guaranteed that Captain Van's Rentals would still be the number one destination for rental transportation on Roatan.

We have been in business for more than a decade, and are proud of our safety record. We perform regular maintenance on our rentals. They are in top shape so that you can really enjoy your tour of our island paradise. We buy only the best equipment, and only the best brand names, giving you the knowledge and confidence that you are renting quality machines.

In 2005 Captain Van’s started doing chauffeured Island Tours. We now offer tourists looking for an alternative to renting 2-wheel vehicles. Now, you could see all that Roatan has to offer without having to be the driver.

In 2006, Captain Van’s opened its location in West Bay at the West Bay Mall. In addition to renting scooters and motorcycles, we rented the latest DVDs, cell phones, DVD players and USB modems for your laptop.
In 2011, Captain Van’s began renting cars and automobiles with the promise of more inventory to come.
In 2014 Captain Van’s branched out into Wine, Beer, Liquor, Snacks, Ice cream, beverages and medicines.
In 2015 Captain Van’s closed its West End location, due to the expansion in West Bay. All customers are invited to contact us at our West Bay Mall location. We are truly the best place to go to in West Bay.
